Hunched over our laptop on deadlines, a tough gym class or the dreaded phone scroll neck all can leave us stiff and sore at the end of the day. Getting into bed with aching muscles or a cricked neck ruins the chance of our beauty sleep. So, take 10 minutes at the end of your day to relax your body with these calming stretches.
Neck Stretch
- Sit straight or stand
- Gently bring your right ear towards your right shoulder until you feel the stretch in the left side of your neck
- Maintain the stretched position for 10 seconds
- Slowly lift your head back to the central position
- Repeat the stretch for the left side
- Repeat two to four times
Lower Back Stretch
- Sit on the floor with your legs spread apart as far as is comfortable with your knees straight but not locked out.
- Rest both your hands on your right knee
- Slowly reach your hands toward your right ankle and lower the forehead to the knee as much as is comfortable
- Hold the stretch at that position for 20 seconds
- Slowly return to your central position.
- Repeat the stretch for the left side
- Repeat the stretch 5 times per side
Child's Pose
- Kneel on the floor with your arms at your shoulders
- Knees should be hip-width apart while your big toes touch each other
- Stretch the arms long in front of the body and place your hands palm down on the floor
- Put your forehead flat on the ground
- Sink your chest to the floor with every breath out
- Close your eyes and take steady deep breaths for 30-60 seconds
